Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program

The Foster to Adopt program gives adopters a unique opportunity to get to know a dog before fully committing to adoption. Adopting a dog can be a big decision — this program helps make it a little less stressful while ensuring the best match for both you and the animal.

Foster to Adopt Process

Step 1: Becoming a Foster

The first step is to complete a foster application. Once approved, our Onboarding Manager will contact you with next steps. While your goal may be to adopt, the animal remains Rescue Network’s until all vetting is completed.

Step 2: Bringing Home Your Foster

Since FTA animals are not yet with Rescue Network, a set arrival day will be scheduled. All details will be communicated with you in advance.

Step 3: Vetting

Almost all animals require additional veterinary care before they can be officially adopted. FTA animals will need to visit one of our vetting partners in Maple Grove, Coon Rapids, St. Cloud, or Beresford, SD.

Step 4: Decision Making

Foster to Adopt participants have 5 days to decide if the animal is the right fit. Even if you decide it’s not a match, you are required to care for the animal until it is adopted.

If you choose to adopt, your Foster Coordinator will guide you through the adoption process. Since you are already approved, the process is simple — the adoption contract and payment occur once vetting is complete.

Not the right fit?
If the animal isn’t a good match, as a registered foster you can stay active in our groups where animals are posted, giving you a first chance at finding your future family member while helping other animals find homes.
