Duluth & the Northland

  Low-cost spay/neuter for household pets and shelter animals, and the first spay/neuter clinic in Minnesota to serve privately owned animals. Surgeries are by appointment only, Monday to Thursday.

  Monday to Thursday 8 am to 3 pm, closed Friday to Sunday. Check-in for every appointment is 8 to 8:30 am, and walk-ins aren’t accepted.

  Booking

  Request an appointment on their website or book in person at the front desk. They can’t book by phone right now, and they suggest email ([email protected]) for a faster answer. Cancelling with less than 24 hours’ notice costs $50 of your deposit.

  Who

  Cats from 8 weeks old and 3 pounds, and dogs from 6 months (they suggest waiting until 1 year for large breeds and 2 years for extra-large breeds). The clinic says it can’t offer public assistance pricing.

  What to bring

  A form of ID. For pets 12 weeks and older who are current on rabies, the rabies certificate (a tag doesn’t count); otherwise they vaccinate at surgery for $20. Cats come in a clean carrier that latches securely, one cat per carrier, and dogs come on a leash. Pets 5 and older need bloodwork from the last 2 weeks, or it can be run that morning for $99. Payment is due at the visit, by cash or card, with no checks or CareCredit.

  Getting there

  Duluth Transit Authority buses allow animals in a kennel, and Go Green Taxi gives free rides to and from the clinic for Duluth and Superior residents: (218) 722-8090.

  Community cats

  A feral cat package for cats brought in live-release traps, Monday to Wednesday at 8 am. They don’t accept feral cats from October 1 to April 1, and the package is booked by phone, (218) 623-6342, or email, not online.
